zSpace is a leading evidence-based augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) platform providing innovative hands-on, experiential through Windows-based AR/VR laptops or desktop computers and software.

zSpace's virtual holographic visualization tool allows 3D interaction with virtual “objects” in environments ranging from education to medical to engineering for virtual training.

The design team immediately recognized that zSpace's product needed to be approachable and easy to use across a range of users. The primary challenge would be the placement of and interaction between elements to make the device intuitive and distraction-free. The system would need to consist of a 24" HD display, four discrete motion tracking sensors, proprietary glasses with tracking beacons, and a handheld stylus.

We determined a thin, high-end display would integrate seamlessly into the current customer environment while blending the real with the virtual. To support a platform for creating real-world 3D holograms, we designed a virtual "hologram arena," in which the main attraction (a 3D image) floats above the liquid crystal display. Surrounding sensors served as stadium lights illuminating the field of play.

Speck Design created a virtual reality device that conveyed boldness and confidence while encouraging interactive experiences. The result was an iconic design solution that makes the zSpace system enticing, immersive, and suitable for users worldwide. Today, zSpace is used by thousands of students in schools in California, New York, Florida, and Texas. zSpace was named the Best Digital Device for Education in the 2015 British Educational Training and Technology (BETT) awards; the 2014 “3D Education Product of the Year” by the International 3D and Advanced Imaging Society; a Best New Product from 2014 Tech and Learning Magazine’s Awards of Excellence; and 2014 Cool Vendor in Education by Gartner, Inc.
